Chalk Paint update

Chalk Paint update

Well let me start out by saying my first attempt at chalk paint was not a resounding success. I was not totally dissapointed either.

The problem was I think in my choice of paint. So this time I am going to try a semi-gloss and I will get back to you with my results. It should be later this week.

I am making a vanity/dressing table and I’m doing it completely from scratch. So watch for the post, probably Monday. I posted below a blog from www.teachpreschool.org/ showing how she mixed her own chalk paint. I found it interesting and hope you will also.

Chalk paint is so simple to make and because it includes a little bit of chalk pounding, the process of making chalk paint is quite fun too.

  1. I’ve made my own DIY chalk paint…and I like it.
I only have one issue with it. I’m told ‘chalk paint’ sticks to anything and you can “paint anything with it” …So while I’ve never bought the expensive brands and have only made my own, I can’t say how it would do. My issue is for furniture that is NOT wood…but pressed board with paper. I’ve painted a couple of those things and it does scratch off easily. So after you’ve had effort and work poured into a project and then you easily scratch it—because not every piece of furniture ‘re-do’ is going to be DISTRESSED, you know–so it’s not a resounding success . But like you… it’s sort of a disappointment

also, I have sealed it with Minwax furniture paste. (still, it gets scratches)
